In the elite world of global tactical instruction, few figures command as much respect as Tu Lam, the founder and CEO of Ronin Tactics. Born on December 17, 1974, in Saigon, South Vietnam, Lam’s journey is a quintessential American story of resilience and transformation. In 1979, he and his family fled their homeland by sea as refugees, eventually finding sanctuary in the United States.

| Tu Lam, the founder of Ronin Tactics and a decorated former U.S. Army Green Beret, transitioned from high-stakes combat deployments to becoming a renowned tactical instructor and mentor. |
Growing up in Fayetteville, North Carolina—in the literal shadow of Fort Bragg—Lam was surrounded by the ethos of the U.S. Army Special Forces. Inspired by the dedication of his stepfather and uncle, both Green Berets, he committed himself to a life of service immediately after graduating high school in June 1993.
Lam’s military career was defined by unrelenting pursuit of excellence. After completing initial Infantry, Airborne, and Ranger training, he entered the grueling Special Forces Qualification Course, earning his Green Beret in 1998. Over the course of a distinguished 23-year military career, Lam operated at the highest levels of U.S. Special Operations.
Serving in more than 20 countries, including high-stakes deployments in Iraq, Libya, and the Philippines, he honed the tactical mastery that would later define his civilian career. When he retired in 2016 as a Master Sergeant (MSG), he left behind a legacy of leadership and quiet professional excellence that few can match.
Retirement, however, proved to be merely the beginning of a new mission. Lam founded Ronin Tactics, a premier training organization dedicated to providing cutting-edge tactical instruction, firearms training, and specialized equipment to military units, law enforcement agencies, and civilian professionals. The company has since become a beacon for those seeking to master the warrior mindset.
Beyond the range, Lam has translated his battlefield experience into a platform for global influence. As an author, speaker, and entrepreneur, he emphasizes the core tenets of discipline, resilience, and the "Ronin" spirit—an ethos of self-reliance and honor.
His reach has extended well beyond professional circles and into popular culture. Lam famously served as the real-life inspiration and motion-capture actor for the character "Ronin" in the hit video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, a role that introduced his philosophy of prepared readiness to millions of players worldwide. Yet, his true impact remains in his commitment to mentorship.
Through his training courses and public speaking engagements, Lam continues to distill lessons from his decades in the shadows of global conflict, teaching the next generation that leadership, self-confidence, and a state of constant preparedness are not just military traits, but essential life skills for anyone willing to face the challenges of the modern world.
